Oasis Women’s Refuge

Oasis women's refuge offers safe, temporary accommodation to self-defining women fleeing domestic abuse. We have a team of dedicated, trained staff who are able to help with a wide range of issues and provide you with practical and emotional support 24/7.

The 24-hour National Domestic Violence Freephone Helpline will help you find a refuge space if you call 0808 2000 247.

When a woman arrives at Oasis they are assigned a keyworker who will meet with them on a weekly basis to start to look at how Oasis can help support their safety and plans for the future. The women will then work with their keyworker to put things in place to meet those needs. We have an 'open door' policy where women and children staying here are able to seek support as and when it is needed.

Keyworkers at the refuge can offer support and advice on the following:

  • Finance, Benefits and budgeting
  • Housing
  • Family and Criminal Law
  • Employment
  • Health
  • Safety Planning
  • Schools

Keyworkers at the refuge work with a range of other local agencies and will offer you referrals to these where appropriate. This can include:

  • Counselling
  • The Freedom Programme
  • Recovery Toolkit
  • Health Visiting Service
  • Children’s Centre
  • Mental health services
  • Substance Misuse Services

Regular meetings and groups are held at the refuge such as weekly breakfast morning followed by the house meeting. This gives staff and residents the opportunity to have an informal chat and breakfast followed by a more formal discussion about an issues arising such as any repairs required, suggestions or upcoming events.

A support group is held on a weekday morning for current residents and people who have previously lived with us. We still have women who stayed with us over 10 years ago attend regularly.

We hold a weekly donations sessions with the women in the evening to sort through donations kindly offered by supporters of Oasis. This gives the opportunity for women to get clothes, home essentials and toys for their children, as often women have fled their home bringing few their belongings with them.

As well as supporting women and their children upon their arrival and throughout their stay, keyworkers will offer resettlement support into safe, permanent accommodation for up to twelve weeks after women leave.

The Oasis Women’s Refuge is a welcoming and diverse place to stay – we welcome women of all backgrounds, races and orientations. Oasis welcomes trans-women who have experienced domestic abuse.
